Overtake Me, Lord
The very real things of this world tend to be diminished when we come up higher and live in a new relationship with God. In this devotional, Jane Hansen Hoyt reveals how being in this higher place changes your reactions into responses and softens your harsh words as you become aligned more fully with Him.
As followers of Jesus, we are invited to live according to a higher standard. We are chosen as God's children to be set apart from the world - set apart from the distractions, hardships, and trials and are given a renewed mindset through the power of the Holy Spirit. We "come up higher" and it transforms the way we think, act, speak, and interact with others.

There is great freedom that comes in living a life fully surrendered to the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 16:24 - "Then Jesus told his disciples, 'if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.'"
It can be easy to ask the Lord to overtake certain parts of our lives, but we are called to walk fully submitted to Him - even with areas of our heart we want to keep hidden away. Releasing full control of our lives to the Lord can be a difficult step - but we are promised a fulfilling life - and eternal reward - as believers fully surrendered to Him.
Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."
This renewing of our minds is a choice. We must commit to the Lord daily, asking Him to help us - and He promises in His Word that He will.
Encouragement:
1 Peter 5:6-8,10 - Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. be alert and of sober mind... and the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast.
Consider the questions below as you reflect on what The Lord is speaking to you in this devotional.
