Enjoy the Water

Have the turbulent waves on the ocean of life become your focus? Listen as Aglow President & CEO, Jane Hansen Hoyt redirects our attention to a different kind of wave; ones that come from the Holy Spirit. Trust in the Water that will cover and engulf you, but will never drown you. Jump in, let go and “Enjoy the Water."

Isaiah 43:2-3
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am The Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

It's easy to get caught up in what is right in front of us. If we become so focused on it, though, we miss what The Lord has for us - even in the midst of what feels like chaos.

  • How is the Lord challenging you to step into the water and craziness of your current season of life?
  • What are some practical ways you can enjoy this time, despite the difficulties of it?

One of my favorite scriptures, and perhaps one of yours, is Psalm 93, where it talks about the eternal reign of God. Oh my goodness! Let that sink into your spirit: the eternal reign of God. Which means that eternal reign is in effect now, it started. We’re living in his eternal reign. And we’re moving towards the fullness of what that means. This Scripture says “The Lord reigns, he is clothed in majesty. He is mightier than the mighty waves of the sea”.

I used to live in southern California. My favorite thing is going to the beach. I packed a lunch, get my kids ready, and off we go. We’d drive for 30 minutes, land there in Santa Monica and I was just filled with excitement. I loved the beach, I loved the ocean. I love to play in the waves of the ocean. In fact, later in my life, when we would go to Maui, it was the same thing. It was like “let’s just get out into those waves! Let them toss us around and let them do with us what they think they can do!” And I know we need to use caution and wisdom in the water, but there’s a place where you’re being tossed, but you’re being tossed in almost a playful way.  You’re not out too deep so it’s dangerous, but you’re in a place where those waves are affecting your life, affecting your time of enjoyment. That may seem like a funny picture to draw in relation to this scripture, but I think of it every time because I so love the water. I think God is saying to us “I want you to trust and to love the water of the Holy Spirit. the heavenly water that is coming down from heaven that will cover you and engulf you, but never drown you. It’s always to buoy you up, it’s always to bring your head up above the water to see further than you were able to see before”. This scripture is a very powerful word because it speaks about those mighty waves. There is a might wave of the Holy Spirit coming to us. We’ve spoken of the Third Day Great Awakening, and I believe that will be a might wave of the Spirit that will bring us up to a higher place. If we’re afraid, we’ll hold onto what we’ve know, we’ll hold onto the shore. He’s saying to us “Let go of everything you’ve known, and trust me in this, and let the water rise and you rise with it, and watch where I’m going to take you”. Enjoy the water, it’s fun.
