Connect with Heaven

Aglow President & CEO, Jane Hansen Hoyt shares insight into fasting as an opportunity to focus on the Lord. A time that allows your spirit and heart to be drawn closer to the Lord. Listen as Jane shows us a place we can step into where we can hear an obey and move according to God's spirit in ways perhaps we haven't been able to before.

Galatians 5:16
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.

The act of fasting is often seen simply as eliminating a habit "just because". However, it's more than that, and allows us to set aside various distractions in order to connect with The Lord - with our attention undivided to Him.

  • What are the different ways you've seen fasting perceived, and how has it shaped your view on it?
  • What has the Lord taught you or spoken to you, either during or after a fast?

It's good to say “hello” to you today. You know Aglow is in the midst of a fast. I believe it's a timely fast, given the the times that we're living in and the things we see occurring. Fear doesn't rise in our hearts, but we do feel focused in the sense that we want to connect with heaven, we want to talk with the Lord. And the way I view fasting is that, it’s, it tends to focus us away from some of the things that occupy our thoughts, our behavior, our normal trends in life. It’s an opportunity to just focus in on him. Don't feel condemned if you're not able to do a full fast. I would share with you I’m not able to do a full fast, but I can be aware of what I eat. I can be aware of what I say. Ican be aware of not being negative. It's a state of awareness that allows your being, your heart, your spirit to be drawn closer to the Lord, to hear him and to obey and listen, and move according to his Spirit in this hour. And perhaps some ways you haven't been able to before. Be encouraged it's a great time. Let him speak to your Spirit, to your being. Love you.
